Washington coach Chris Petersen is well aware of just how dominant Alabama has been this season.

Petersen’s Huskies will face the top-ranked Crimson Tide in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 31 in a College Football Playoff semifinal. The Huskies (12-1) came in ranked fourth in the final College Football Playoff rankings, ahead of Big Ten champion Penn State (11-2). When asked by ESPN on Sunday about fans who hold those “We want Bama” signs, Petersen gave a pretty honest response.

“Sometimes, you’ve got to be careful what you wish for,” Petersen said. “I didn’t hold that sign up.”

Washington won the Pac-12 championship, losing just once, but that was a 26-13 home loss to USC. The Trojans, meanwhile, were blasted by Alabama, 52-6, in the season opener. Alabama, which was a 54-16 winner over Florida in the SEC championship game, opened as a two-touchdown favorite over the Huskies.

“It’s a special team, special program,” Petersen said of Alabama. “It’ll be a tremendous challenge. It’ll be the biggest challenge, certainly, we’ve ever faced as football coaches and players.”
