Wilson drilled Schenn from behind in open ice, sending him head-first into the boards with 4:33 remaining in the second period.

Wilson's hit caused a scuffle to break out along the boards before he was assessed a five-minute major for charging and then slapped with a game misconduct penalty.

Schenn, obviously shaken from the collision, attempted to skate to the bench on his own power but collapsed on the ice multiple times.

He was ruled out of the game with an "upper body injury," the Flyers later announced .

This particularly violent hit comes three days after Shawn Thornton received a season-longest 15-game suspension for his late hit on Brooks Orpik   on Dec. 7.
