Indianapolis, down by six points with just over a minute left to play, sent its punt team onto the field on fourth-and-3 in their own territory. Needless to say, the play was a bust and the Colts ultimately lost 34-27.

As hopeless as the two-against-11 formation appears, there is at least one team that has managed to successfully carry out the play.

In a 2011 game against James Madison, Maine ran a play of similar formation during a two-point conversion attempt. The play proved effective and earned Maine a 25-24 overtime victory.

We can only hope the Colts (3-3) learned from their mistakes and will have better luck with trick plays when they host the struggling Saints (2-4) on Sunday.
