An incident at turn three on the first lap saw Tatsuki Suzuki lose the front and collect Lorenzo Dalla Porta, Jakub Kornfeil and Adam Norrodin.

The latter remounted and rode back to the pit lane, inadvertently leaving a trail of oil on the track.

And that could have had serious consequences for the wellbeing of his colleagues, as the fluid caused carnage a lap later, when a large proportion of the field lost grip and went onto the gravel at the same time, where they were forced - with mixed results - to try and dodge the unmanned vehicles sliding around them.

Remarkably, all of the riders involved in the crash were declared fit to resume the race after inspections in the medical centre. After action resumed, championship leader Joan Mir picked up a dominant victory, his third win of the season.
