While Celta Vigo ultimately secured its spot in the semifinals with a 2-2 draw Wednesday — clinching a 4-3 aggregate triumph — Ronaldo gave Madrid hope with a 62nd-minute free kick that pulled his side within a goal of equalizing.
With Madrid down 1-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate, Ronaldo hammered his dipping, 25-yard set piece inside the far post.
It wasn’t enough, though, as Celta’s Daniel Wass and Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez traded late goals, leaving Los Blancos one strike short of completing the comeback.
